I saw this again on Tuesday so here are some things I’d forgotten about:
This is the only Alice adaptation I’ve ever seen that doesn’t cut the caucus race
The mad hatter wears taps throughout and it’s so jarring and surprising it’s perfect
The executioner shadows almost everyone who dances with the Queen
Lewis Carroll is a character in the ballet and becomes the white rabbit who leads Alice into wonderland which is bad and wrong because Carroll is the dodo but does work very well
They started dropping rose petals from the ceiling onto the audience when Alice looked through the door to the garden and it was utterly magic
The Cheshire Cat is made of about 10 different puppets that dance around the stage
Which reminds me Alice is styled after Alice Liddell rather than the John Tenniel illustrations
I don’t think the king of hearts actually dances he just wanders around looking confused

Finally an adaptation that makes feel like I’m going to have stroke, it’s perfect
I took my nephew and niece to their first event when they were… five and seven? They each picked out a heavy and a rapier fighter to cheer on (we made favors for them to give as part of the Plan to Keep Little Kids Entertained™). They interpreted this to mean that they were to LOOK AFTER these fighters and spent the remainder of the day taking them water and sharing goldfish crackers with them.

still thinking about the interaction I had while grocery shopping on the weekend, when we got to the milk isle a worker was just starting to load up the fridge so we asked if he could just hand us a jug right, and then when he did my mom went ‘nice and fresh!’ you know small talk and the worker stopped. took the milk back out of my hands. and said 'fresh? I can do better.’ and then walked into the back of the store and came back a few minutes later with….I guess, better milk? unreleased milk? premium store brand milk advanced copy???
help last week a guy gave her extra fried chicken and when she said that she only wanted one he went “I got you 😏” and then today the deli guy gave her a full pound of cheese for the price of the quarter she ordered…what is my mom doing to woo all these supermarket employees 😭
